Music Scene CIC

Help your city’s music community find its people — and its future.

Through Music Scene CIC, Charlotte Furness and I work with councils, venues and cultural organisations to connect local talent, strengthen audiences and turn a scattered scene into something visible and sustainable. Our advice comes from building and running Bradford Music Scene, not just writing about it.

01 / What you can commission

From local insight to public activity

Understand your scene

Map venues, artists and local infrastructure through stakeholder interviews, surveys and grassroots insight. Identify the gaps, pressures and opportunities — with written recommendations your team can act on.

Give it a digital home

Plan a community platform, a useful gig guide and a channel-by-channel social strategy. BMS Live is the working example: connecting fans, artists, venues and promoters rather than simply listing events.

Bring people together

Curated showcases, multi-venue programming, venue forums and networking sessions. Build repeated opportunities for people to meet, collaborate and reach audiences, with fair booking and inclusion in mind.

Build lasting capability

Practical talks, workshops and training for artists, venues, promoters and council teams, alongside evaluation, reporting and a forward strategy. The aim is a community that keeps working beyond the commission.

02 / Built and tested in Bradford

Mailing list growth through engagement, reported in our 2026 capability document

Since 2021, we have built a public platform, editorial gig guides, an awards show, live events and a venue forum. The capability document also describes our contribution to Bradford’s district music strategy and the relationships developed with cultural organisations and music-sector bodies.

03 / How we work

Listen. Build. Evaluate. Leave a method.

We start with the people already doing the work: artists, venues, promoters and local teams. Together we agree the priorities, delivery and measures of success. Depending on the brief, that can mean a scene audit and report, an activation programme or retained advisory support — with in-person, remote or hybrid delivery.

My contribution connects brand, digital product design, marketing and community-building. Consultancy delivery through Music Scene CIC is shared with Charlotte Furness; you can also hire me individually for design, content and app projects.
